In April, the Independent reported:
Banking giant Barclays took an additional £300 million hit to cover payment protection insurance mis-selling claims today but unveiled a higher-than-expected rise in quarterly profits.
The bank has now set aside £1.3 billion to deal with PPI compensation after a recent increase in the number of claims, which have eaten into the profits of its UK arm.
In addition, the guardian reported:
Barclays has announced it will compensate all customers who complained they had been mis-sold payment protection insurance (PPI) before 20 April on a “no questions asked” basis.
The payments, which the bank says are intended as a “gesture of goodwill”, will comprise all premiums paid plus any added interest.
Which is great news for all those who feel that they have a claim against their PPI on Barclays products such as:
- Loans
- Credit Cards
- Mortgages
- Over draft
- Barclays powered store card
Should I use a Claims management Company?
In a nut shell, it isn’t advisable to use one, unless you are absolutely certain you can’t follow a few steps to get the claim in place yourself. (see our How to Claim PPI from Barclays guide below)
In fact, Barclays own website states:
Contrary to any advice or information you may receive from CMCs, we make no distinction at all between complaints made via a CMC and complaints you make directly.
Essentially you could be giving away as much as a quarter of your potential claim to a company making the claim on your behalf.
